Join the Minnesota Tool Library for a sewing workshop where you'll make your own tote bag.
MTL's Learn to Sew project sessions are perfect for beginners or those looking to boost their basic sewing skills and try out some new patterns. Each session begins with a lesson on the parts and functions of the sewing machine (like the zipper foot), how to properly thread that needle (what bobbins are for), and how to make a variety of stitches. You'll use the class project pattern to create something awesome that you can easily practice and replicate on your own, and become confident in your ability to operate a sewing machine.
In this class you will make a tote bag with a squared base - a perfect bag for stowing your daily necessities, projects, or groceries. There will be a variety of different materials to choose from, and you can choose a custom combination of fabrics for the bag, the base, the liner, and the straps. You will also leave with the pattern, so you can make more to share, using the sewing machines from the MN Tool Library.
No experience necessary. Youth are welcome to participate with 1-1 adult supervision.
All materials are provided, but you're welcome to bring your own fabric if you prefer.
* If you have a personal machine you've inherited and would like to become more familiar with, you can bring it to class and our class assistant can make sure it is in good working order.
